Statement on Equity and Race

Topeka Public Schools does not focus on one theory but rather we encourage students to examine research, historical events, political and social systems and determine ways they can positively impact systems as we create equitable opportunities for all while keeping to our mission to “engage, prepare and inspire our students for a lifetime of learning."

Our school district is a learning community committed to ensuring educational equity and excellence so that students of all races and backgrounds achieve at high levels and graduate prepared for success in college, careers, and life in a diverse and rapidly changing world.

Our curriculum and our equity council that has been in place for over a decade will continue to address various aspects of race and equity although we are not focusing the curriculum on one theory and is aligned with the Kansas State Department of Education standards, which may be found at www.ksde.org.

The district provides culturally relevant teaching and diversity training for our staff so they may support access, representation, meaningful participation, and high outcomes for all students. You may find more information about our curriculum and instruction at https://staffsite.topekapublicschools.net/curriculum_guide.
