Assessments

STATE PERFORMANCE

The Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) includes a variety of tests aligned with Kansas' content standards. These help educators and policymakers evaluate student learning and meet the requirements for federal and state accountability.

Topeka Public Schools students (TPS) in grades third through eighth, 10th and 11th grade will participate in the Kansas State Assessment program in the areas of reading, math, social studies and/or science (areas tested vary by grade level).

Visit the Kansas Assessment Program website for more information about this program.

State Assessments in reading and math are given online after Spring Break in grades third through eighth and 10th. Students in grades fifth, and 11th also take science assessments each year. Every other year, students in grades sixth, eighth and 11th participate in history/government state assessments. The state assessments are taken over a period of three to four weeks.

Beginning with the 2015 state assessments, the data from previous state assessments are no longer comparable. Moving forward, student performance will be measured according to four performance levels. Click the link here to view the grade level performance level descriptors. TPS State assessment performance may be viewed here, Kansas Report Card.

State Assessments include a variety of tests and other tools aligned to the Kansas College and Career Ready Standards (KCCRS).

  • Good night sleep the night before the test.
  • A healthy breakfast the morning of the test.
  • Make sure students are at school on the day of the test, unless they are sick.
