How we Support Topeka Public Schools
The Special Services Team:
*develop and facilitate professional learning for all staff regarding Special Education and Gifted
*provide training and materials to teachers on how to adapt and modify curriculum
*ensure IEP goals and IEP documents are written to maximize educational benefit and are aligned with curriculum, instruction, and assessment
*assist teams in discussing the continuum of services and making decisions related to Least Restrictive Environment (LRE)
*provide coaching to teachers and para-professionals in building
*collaborate with community agencies
Support for Schools
Some services we provide principals and schools:
*present guidance on Emergency Safety Interventions (ESI)
*Training on modifying and adapting materials
*regular meetings with teachers and administrators
*additional support for teacher's new to Special Services
*provide professional learning to support a full continuum of services, including inclusion
*secure and recommend resources
Support for Parents and Community
Special Services provides training to parents on specialized equipment that their child may be using at home. Special Services works with families to access community programs and agencies.
