Superintendent's Message

Dear Topeka Public School District Families and Staff:

We are excited for the outstanding year ahead for the 2021-2022 school year. Last year we demonstrated what resilience and innovation looked like as we transformed classrooms amidst a pandemic and ensured we continued providing students with instructional opportunities and health services while facing the largest international public health crises we have seen in our lifetime.

Throughout last year, we implemented and expanded paid internships, we created micro classrooms, health services were expanded, another FEMA shelter at our welcome center was built and academics in various areas increased. As a result of the resources we have provided, McCarter, McEeachron, and McClure outperformed the state in math or English. Landon, Eisenhower, and French middle schools outperformed the state as well, in one or more academic subjects. Our Topeka High Women’s Softball team had an undefeated softball season and became state champions. Additionally, Topeka West, Highland Park, and Topeka High Men’s Basketball programs excelled competitively at the state level, despite wearing facemasks during all games. The character of our staff, our students, and parents is tremendous as we all place students first! Last year we held outdoor concerts, proms, and musicals. This year we look forward to bringing families back into our schools as we engage, prepare, and inspire students for a lifetime of learning.

Thank you for the privilege to serve your family! Welcome back to the 2021-22 school year.
