Superintendent's Message

Dear Topeka Public School District Families and Staff:
We have an incredible year planned for our students, staff and families. Last year we gained tremendous momentum in student performance with the majority of our students scoring on grade level or above across the district. Multiple students were Governor’s Scholars representing the top one percent in the state. Several students were named National Merit Finalists, and our scholars gained over $13 million in academic scholarships. In addition to these accomplishments:
  • Topeka West won 1st place in 5A State Tennis Championship
  • Topeka High School boys baseball team advanced to the 2023 State Tournament
  • Math teacher Mrs. Cherryl Delacruz was named Region 2 finalist for Kansas Teacher of the Year
  • Multiple students and staff members won local, state, and national awards
  • 30 students gain the Seal of Biliteracy showing their ability to speak multiple languages
Most importantly, to reduce the cost for families to send students to school, our nutrition team wrote and was awarded a competitive grant, over the next three school years. As a result, Topeka Public Schools will be the only district in Kansas offering school lunch to all students at no cost to families. Topeka Public Schools continues to focus on the many ways to engage, prepare, and inspire students for a lifetime of learning.

Thank you for the privilege to serve your family! Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year.
