Posted on 02/18/2022

Topeka Public Schools (TPS) has received national recognition as a Grand Prize winner in the 28th annual Magna Awards, a prestigious program sponsored by the National School Boards Association’s flagship publication, American School Board Journal.
The Magna Awards highlight school districts across the country that are leading the way in advancing educational equity and student success. TPS was recognized in the 5,000 to 20,000 student enrollment category for its innovative and impactful PreK-12 Dual Language Program.
Serving approximately 13,100 students, Topeka Public Schools is proud to be the only district in Kansas offering a comprehensive PreK-12 Dual Language Program. This program provides students with the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate, and culturally competent, preparing them for success in a global society. Students begin at Scott Dual Language Magnet School, then continue their bilingual education at Landon Middle School and Topeka High School, graduating with the Seal of Biliteracy from the state of Kansas.
This national honor reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive, high-quality learning opportunities that support every student’s academic growth and future readiness. Through programs like Dual Language, TPS continues to lead the way in delivering innovative educational experiences that empower students and strengthen the community.
