Highland Park High School Students Partner With Topeka Youth Commission to Paint Mural at Boys & Girls Club

The Highland Park High School (HPHS) Key Club recently partnered with the Topeka Mural Project and Topeka Youth Commission to create an incredible grant-funded mural.

2021 HPHS Valedictorian, Eliseo Barreno, applied for a grant from the Topeka Youth Commission to help beautify the Boys & Girls Clubs Teen Center.

The mural was then painted over several weeks on the east wall of the community center, which can also be viewed from Samuel C. Jackson Park near 10th & Chandler.

The mural was professionally painted by Robert Bustamante, with the help of HPHS students.

HPHS teacher Peter Muraski said the students were excited to be able to get outdoors and express themselves without having a prompt.

“When they get a chance to come by and see their collective work, they will be able to point this out to their families and friends,” said Muraski.
