Topeka Public Schools was honored to host the Second Gentleman Mr. Douglas Emhoff and US Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona on Monday, August 9 for a tour of our back-to-school clinic at Topeka High.
The clinic offered students and families COVID-19 vaccinations, K-12 immunizations, sports physicals, school supplies, and online enrollment. Over 500 families were served at the event.
Mr. Emhoff and Secretary Cardona also participated in a question and answer session with current and former Topeka Public Schools students who have been helping their community through the pandemic, including leading outreach efforts to encourage people to get vaccinated.
The students who led the discussion were:
- Ryleigh Atkinson-McLaury (2021 Topeka High School graduate)
- DeAndre Hicks (Topeka High School Senior)
- Kelm Lear (2021 Topeka High School graduate)
- Marissa Wagner (2018 Topeka West High School graduate)
Topeka Public Schools thanks the Second Gentleman, Secretary Cardona, Governor Laura Kelly, and Mayor Michelle De La Isla for taking the time to visit Topeka High and learn about our district and its vaccination clinics.
