Premium Retention & Recruitment Pay

Topeka Public Schools (TPS) recognizes the hardship on employees caused by remaining in a pandemic for multiple years. As a result, through grant funds, TPS is rewarding all current staff members with Premium Retention & Recruitment Pay, paid under a scheduled plan.

 

All Staff Members: $6000

Premium Retention Incentive for all staff members, paid in quarterly installments. To be eligible, staff members must be actively employed and have 95% attendance.

 

Frontline Employees: $6000 + Additional $2000 ($8000 Total)

Frontline employees will receive an additional Premium Retention Incentive of $2000 (in addition to the $6000, so $8000 total), paid in quarterly installments. To be eligible, staff members must be actively employed and have 95% attendance.

This includes:

  • Principals
  • Any certified or classified staff working directly with students
  • School building custodial staff
  • Food service workers
  • School building secretaries/administrative assistants
  • Instructional coaches
  • Consulting teachers
  • Related service providers

 

Substitutes & Contracted Service Providers: $2400

Substitutes and contract related service providers will receive a Premium Retention Incentive of $2400, paid in quarterly installments.

To be eligible, substitutes must be actively employed and accepted 80% of assigned jobs

Q. How many absences will be allowed per quarter and still meet the 95% attendance?
A. All quarters will allow for three absences per quarter for all employees.

Q. Do bereavement absences count towards attendance rates?
A. Since bereavement leave comes from paid sick leave, yes, it will count against attendance.

Q. Where does this money come from?
A. The Retention and Recruitment Incentive is paid for through an ESSER grant overseen by the State of Kansas.

Q. Why does there have to be an attendance requirement at all?
A. It is important to combat learning loss, due to the pandemic, that we keep our school buildings open and staff are present.
