Today marked a historic and momentous occasion! Students across the district celebrated Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day with a visit from the civil rights icon herself, Ruby Bridges, at Washburn University, as Governor Laura Kelly proclaimed November 14 as the 2nd annual Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day in Kansas.

We thank Ms. Bridges, Gov. Kelly, the Event Steering Committee, and the many sponsors who came together for an incredible discussion on civil rights, resilience, and empowering the youth.
Students from Williams Science and Fine Arts Magnet School commemorated the day with a meaningful walk to the Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Park, led by NEA Today President Becky Pringle and Kansas NEA President Sherri Schwanz. The walk culminated in readings and remarks about community, education, and our collective history.
