Rev. John R. Williams

Rev. John R. Williams is a native of Kansas City, Kansas and a graduate of Wyandotte High School. Following graduation, he attended Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree.

In July 2010, Rev. Williams retired from Facilities Management at the Kansas Department of Administration, where he served as an Architectural Project Designer for more than 28 years. Following his retirement, Rev. Williams was employed by Topeka Public Schools as an Emergency Substitute Teacher and Para-Educator at the Shawnee County Juvenile Detention Center.

Rev. Williams was elected to the Topeka Public Schools Board of Education in April 2013 and appointed Board President in July 2021. In addition to his current role as Board President, Rev. Williams is a member of the Equity Council and Personnel Committee. He also volunteers as a math tutor and mentor in the district. He and his wife, a 1973 Topeka High graduate, Corliss Williams (Davis), together have five children and ten grandchildren. 

In the Topeka community, he is a member of Living the Dream, Inc., Golden City Sertoma, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Topeka/Shawnee Riverfront Authority Advisory Council, Boys & Girls Club of Topeka Board of Directors, and The New Beginning Baptist Church, where he serves as Associate Elder/Pastor and Youth Pastor. He is also a member of the National Black Council of School Board Members (NSBA) currently serving as Western Region Director. In addition, he is a member of the Executive Committee of NFUSSD (National Federation of Urban and Suburban School Districts).
