Dr. Michael R. Morrison

Dr. Michael "Mike" Morrison was raised in Wichita, Kansas by a family of educators. He attended Wichita Public Schools and graduated from Wichita South High School. He graduated from University of Kansas, Phi Beta Kappa, with honors in Chemistry before attending medical school at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

After obtaining an MD degree there, he did a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and moved to Topeka to practice medicine. During a 32-year career he delivered over 5,000 babies and did numerous surgeries. He served as president of medical staff at Stormont Vail Hospital, president of Kansas Medical Education Foundation, chair of the department of Ob-Gyn at both hospitals, and chair of both the Quality Assurance Committee and Credentials Committee at Stormont Vail. He was also president of Lincoln Center Ob-Gyn PA. He retired from medicine in 2012.

Dr. Morrison was also a clinical professor at KU Medical Center and taught residents for 32 years. Further interest in education came from serving as president of Topeka High PTO and chairperson of the Topeka High site council.

He is married to Grace Morrison, also a retired physician, who is active in the community. He has a daughter, Mackenzie, two stepdaughters, Sarah and Megan, and five grandchildren.

Dr. Morrison would like to see more rigor in public education which would prepare graduates immediately for a career or further education. He believes that emphasis should be placed on math and science to enable United States graduates to become leaders in these fields.
