TPS & Living the Dream, Inc. Launch Annual Food Drive Early in Response to Federal Shutdown
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown and the interruption of SNAP benefits, Topeka Public Schools and Living the Dream, Inc. are launching the annual Living the Dream Food Drive early this year. The food drive, now in its 9th year, will start today and run through Winter Break to support students and families facing food insecurity.
Schools may now begin collecting non-breakable, non-perishable food items and keep a count of what’s received. Families in need can then begin accessing the donated items immediately by contacting their school counselor or social worker.
The school or building that collects the most items will receive the Living the Dream Traveling Trophy, and any remaining items will be donated to the TPS Community Cupboard and Washburn University Food Pantry.
Together, we can continue the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by ensuring no family in our community goes hungry this season.
