• Students in the Engineering and Applied Math pathway will learn and practice basic engineering concepts, the engineering design process and industrial robotic programming. Courses also include a strong emphasis relating to practice and development of professional skills that will contribute to student success in the workplace. All coursework is designed to prepare students for future educational pursuits, but even more importantly, prepare them for successful practice of engineering in the nation's workforce. Students in this pathway will have the opportunity to receive OSHA-10 training and will utilize professional project management tools and techniques in their project work.

    Course topics related to principles of engineering will be drawn from various engineering sciences associated with mechanical, electrical, aeronautical and industrial engineering fields. Students will research careers, educational requirements and industry applications of a wide range of engineering fields recognized by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

    The key difference between this course and other science offerings at the high school level is the opportunity for students to apply these concepts as they experiment, design and build projects on their own. Students will utilize the engineering design process to apply the scientific principles they have learned to numerous hands-on projects throughout the year.

    Course topics related to robotics will include state-of-the-art robotic programming applications such as MOTOMAN robotic programming, PLC Ladder Programming and ROBOTC VEX robot programming. Robotics students be introduced to mechanical design strategies associated with robot design. Additionally, they will research careers in robotics as they are used in varied fields.
