The purpose of Topeka Public Schools Foundation is to foster community support for educational projects, grants, and scholarships. Simply stated, it exists to raise private dollars to support TPS initiatives beyond the budget constraints of the legislative financial allocation. Its mission is to assist in providing maximum public school education opportunities through engagement of the community and development of partnerships.
Established in 1986, Topeka Public Schools Foundation is a not-for-profit organization started by Superintendent Marvin Edwards and a group of visionary citizens headed by Emery Fager of then Commerce Bank and Trust (now CoreFirst). TPS Foundation is governed by a volunteer board which consists of community leaders, educators, and parents and an executive director. TPS also supports the foundation by providing office space.
Kids Koncert is a benefit concert for the foundation! Presented by K.I.C.K.S, Kids In Care of Kids, the concert features student musicians, and the program is produced by students. K.I.C.K.S is the brain-child of THS freshman Jaide Ramirez-Jennings. She started the organization as a support-umbrella for those community causes that are working to improve children's lives. A concert seemed a natural choice given the foundation's often artistic focus, and the importance of the arts to youth development.
The concert is at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at Topeka High School's Hoehner Auditorium. Tickets are $5 at the door. Proceeds will support TPSF-administered scholarships. We hope you'll turn out to support the foundation and K.I.C.K.S, as well as our talented musicians.
We're holding the annual Winfred Tidwell Memorial Golf Tournament a little earlier this year on May 23. We're also turning our attention a little closer to home by having Cypress Ridge host the tournament. With this year's fees down to $85 per player, early registration will be more important to beat the 124-player cap! Registration deadline is May 16, for both players and sponsors.
The golf tournament is a great way to put your brand in front of the community, and show you support our youth. There are several ways to sponsor the tournament. Find out more, and register yourself or your team, using this brochure and registration form.
