Win was a veteran teacher and administator who touched the lives of thousands of children over his long career as an educator in Topeka. Win died of cancer in 1991. One of his passions was golf. Through this tournament his avid desire to support students and their families endures. In recent years, former students of Win's have joined the golf planning committee.
A four-person scramble, shot-gun start 18-hole golf tournament held in memory of Winfred Tidwell. Open to duffers of all ages and skill, players receive premiums from local vendors, entry into drawings, as well as a shot at a variety of hole-prizes. Community support for this event is strong and continuing to grow, despite competition from other less-venerable fund-raising tournaments.
Initially an effort of the Topeka Elementary School Administrators, TPSF has hosted this annual memorial golf tournament since 1993. Proceeds from the tournament are used to offer programs such as the Educational Grant Program. This program awards grants to teachers and administrators of up to $1,000 for projects enhancing educational opportunities for students.
The 19th annual Win Tidwell Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, June 1, 2012 at Firekeeper golf course in Mayetta (across from Prairie Band Casino and Resort). Sponsorship and registration information will be available soon.
The 18th annual Memorial Golf Tournament was held Friday, June 3rd, 2011. This year, educators (or their family designee) played free (only one free person per team). An educator who did not play golf, could designate one family member to play free in his/her place. The generosity of the community leaders below demonstrated their care about Topeka-area students. The tournament goal of bringing in $10,000 was exceeded, the weather and course were exceptional and a good time was had by all! We appreciate the support of the players, underwriters, and hole & prize sponsors. Please support the businesses that supported TPS on this event!
