Bridges to the Future

Bridges to the Future Educational Fund provides educational opportunities to low income students who would otherwise have those pathways closed to them.

Why the fund was created

The Topeka Public Schools (TPS) currently offers a wonderful program for students to gain marketable skills for post-high school employment. This TPS program covers the tuition costs for juniors and seniors accepted into programs at Washburn Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech) while they are still in high school.

However, many of the students in the TPS Migrant Education Program cannot afford the additional costs associated with many of the programs.  As a result, this opportunity for educational advancement and future employment is lost to them.

What the fund does

Bridges to the Future provides grants to qualified students served by the TPS Migrant Education Program to reduce the financial burden of additional program costs.

While the TPS generously covers the cost of tuition, additional program costs such as books, supplies, tools and uniforms can become a barrier for low-income families. These costs can range from $350 to $4,300.

The funding provided by Bridges to the Future enables students to take full advantage of the program offered at Washburn Tech while they are in high school, as well as after graduation.

Why we need your help

Bridges to the Future is able to provide this critical assistance to students through the generous support of our donors. We rely on the commitment and generosity of people like you to help us continue to provide these students with a pathway to education.

At least 95% of every donation goes toward student services and the purchase of books, supplies, tools and fees so students can focus on what’s important - building a brighter future for themselves and their families.

As an educational fund within the TPS Foundation, a 501c3 organization, every donation to Bridges to the Future is tax deductible. We invest funds through the TPS Foundation with the long-term goal of attaining a 3-year reserve of assets to ensure our ability to provide continuous support for our students.
